As we mark 500 days since Caryn and I assumed our roles as Chancellor and Prior of St John Ambulance Cymru, we reflect on the significant strides our charity has made during this period.

Upon taking office, our focus has always been on building a strong, sustainable future for the charity. Collaborating closely with our Executive Leaders and all our St John people, we have together prioritised building a solid financial outlook, with an expected breakeven budget for next year. This turnaround is a testament to the dedication and resilience of our entire team.

Recognising the importance of robust leadership, we have appointed a new Chief Executive Officer and welcomed new Trustees to our Board.  These additions have further strengthened our corporate governance, ensuring we are well-equipped to meet future challenges. In our commitment to modernisation, we have updated our Articles and Regulations. These revisions provide a solid foundation as we continue to evolve and adapt in an ever-changing environment.

A highlight of our tenure was hosting the Grand Council in Cardiff, in partnership with St John International. This event brought together a global audience, showcasing our charity's pivotal role on the international stage. On-going engagement with all our St John people has been crucial. Through meetings, visits, and ceremonial events, we have listened to their insights and worked diligently to address concerns. Their unwavering commitment remains the cornerstone of our organisation.

Looking ahead, we are actively involved in developing a new five-year strategy for the charity. This plan will guide our efforts to enhance the health and wellbeing of communities across Wales, building upon our rich history and embracing future opportunities.

As we celebrate this milestone, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has contributed to our journey. Together, we will continue to uphold the values of St John Ambulance Cymru, ensuring we are always there for communities across Wales.
