Young Welsh lifesavers honoured at Buckingham Palace

A group of young St John Ambulance Cymru volunteers have been honoured for their achievements at a special reception in Buckingham Palace, which was attended by HRH The Princess Royal, the A group of people posing for a photo

Description automatically generated with medium confidenceCommandant-in-Chief (Youth) of St John Ambulance. The event was organised by St John Ambulance in England as a celebration of the achievements of inspirational young people from across the UK.

Badgers Alfie-Jay Probert, Tyler Elphinstone, and Megan Edwards were recognised for achieving the Super Badger Award and Cadets Olivia Barry, Grace Morgan, Bethan Morgan, Teleri Cook and Isabella Jones were invited having achieved the prestigious Grand Prior Award. Also present at the reception were Laura Joliffe, Young Adult of the Year, and Celyn-Mai Clement, Deputy Young Adult of the Year.

To attain the Super Badger Award, Badgers must complete badges in 9 of the 15 subjects offered, where they can learn about everything from making their own ice cream, the human body, recycling, keeping safe and first aid. The Grand Prior's Award is the ultimate Cadet achievement demonstrating commitment, compassion, and self-improvement. As part of the programme cadets must learn first aid, the history of the organisation and personal health and wellbeing.

The day began at St John Priory Church in Clerkenwell, London, where the representatives from St John Ambulance Cymru were able to meet with other young people from across the UK. Then they were taken to Buckingham Palace  where they met HRH The Princess Royal. 

Jessica Bogunovic, the St John Ambulance Cymru Young People’s Development Officer who accompanied the young people to London said, “The Princess Royal took the time to speak to every single one of the young people, and it was such a wonderful experience.

Young Adult of the Year Laura Jolliffe, from the Griffithstown Division said, “I was invited to the palace after winning the National Young Adult of the year competition back in 2021.

 

Attending the young achievers reception was such an amazing, once in a lifetime experience. The grand and elegant interior of the palace exceeded all of my expectations, and I felt honoured to be able to experience it with a group  of other amazing young people.

Meeting HRH Princess Anne was a such a surreal experience, and a moment that I won't forget for the rest of my life.” 

Rebekah Burns, St John Ambulance Cymru’s National Safeguarding Manager and Children and Young People’s Lead said, We are proud to celebrate and support our children and young people at this prestigious award event in Buckingham Palace.

Anrhydeddu achubwyr bywyd ifanc Cymreig ym Mhalas Buckingham

Mae grŵp o wirfoddolwyr ifanc St John Ambulance Cymru wedi cael eu hanrhydeddu am eu cyflawniadau mewn derbyniad arbennig ym Mhalas Buckingham, a fynychwyd gan Ei Uchelder Brenhinol y Dywysoges Frenhinol, Prif Gomander (Ieuenctid) St John Ambulance. Trefnwyd y digwyddiad gan St John Ambulance y Lloegr fel dathliad o gyflawniadau pobl ifanc ysbrydoledig o bob rhan o’r DU.

Cydnabuwyd y badgers Alfie-Jay Probert, Tyler Elphinstone, a Megan Edwards am ennill y Wobr Super Badger a gwahoddwyd y Cadetiaid Olivia Barry, Grace Morgan, Bethan Morgan, Teleri Cook ac Isabella Jones ar ôl cyflawni Gwobr fawreddog y Grand Prior. Hefyd yn bresennol yn y derbyniad roedd Laura Joliffe, Oedolyn Ifanc y Flwyddyn, a Celyn-Mai Clement, Dirprwy Oedolyn Ifanc y Flwyddyn.

Er mwyn ennill y Wobr Super Badger, rhaid i Badgers gwblhau bathodynnau mewn 9 o'r 15 pwnc a gynigir, lle gallant ddysgu am bopeth o wneud eu hufen iâ eu hunain, y corff dynol, ailgylchu, cadw'n ddiogel a chymorth cyntaf. Gwobr y Grand Prior yw cyflawniad eithaf y Cadetiaid sy'n dangos ymrwymiad, tosturi, a hunan-wella. Fel rhan o'r rhaglen rhaid i gadetiaid ddysgu cymorth cyntaf, hanes y sefydliad ac iechyd a lles personol.

Dechreuodd y diwrnod yn Eglwys Priordy Sant Ioan yn Clerkenwell, Llundain, lle cafodd cynrychiolwyr o St John Ambulance Cymru gyfle i gwrdd â phobl ifanc eraill o bob rhan o’r DU. Yna aethpwyd â nhw i Balas Buckingham lle cwrddon nhw â'i Huchelder y Dywysoges Frenhinol.

 

Dywedodd Jessica Bogunovic, Swyddog Datblygu Pobl Ifanc St John Ambulance Cymru a aeth gyda’r bobl ifanc i Lundain, “Cymerodd y Dywysoges Frenhinol amser i siarad â phob un o’r bobl ifanc, ac roedd yn brofiad gwych.

 

Roedd yn bleser gweld eu gwaith caled yn cael ei gydnabod mewn digwyddiad mor uchel ei broffil.”

 

Dywedodd Laura Jolliffe, Oedolyn Ifanc y Flwyddyn, o Adran Griffithstown, “Cefais wahoddiad i’r palas ar ôl ennill cystadleuaeth Oedolyn Ifanc Cenedlaethol y Flwyddyn nôl yn 2021.

 

Roedd mynychu derbyniad y cyflawnwyr ifanc yn brofiad mor anhygoel, unwaith mewn oes. Roedd tu mewn mawreddog a chain y palas yn rhagori ar fy holl ddisgwyliadau, a theimlais yn anrhydedd i allu ei brofi gyda grŵp o bobl ifanc anhygoel eraill.

Roedd cwrdd â’i Huchelder y Dywysoges Anne yn brofiad mor swreal, ac yn foment na fyddaf yn ei anghofio am weddill fy oes.”

 

Dywedodd Rebekah Burns, Rheolwr Diogelu Cenedlaethol St John Ambulance Cymru ac Arweinydd Plant a Phobl Ifanc, “Rydym yn falch o ddathlu a chefnogi ein plant a phobl ifanc yn y digwyddiad gwobrwyo mawreddog hwn ym Mhalas Buckingham.

Maent yn mynychu cannoedd o oriau o gyfleoedd dysgu a gwirfoddoli cymunedol, dros nifer o flynyddoedd, sydd oll yn cyfrannu at ennill y gwobrau uchaf a roddwn.

 

Mae’n anrhydedd gwirioneddol cefnogi ein plant a’n pobl ifanc i fod yn achubwyr bywyd i’w teuluoedd, cymunedau a’n gwlad.

Ein nod yw darparu cyfleoedd datblygiad personol a phroffesiynol i blant a phobl ifanc, ledled Cymru, i gynyddu cyfleoedd achub bywyd i bawb, ac i gefnogi pobl ifanc tuag at yrfaoedd a dyheadau o fewn y sector iechyd a gofal cymdeithasol.”
