Who is it for?

People that regularly need to administer medical gas as part of their daily jobs, such as nurses, dental nurses, and other medical professionals. It will also be a useful course for those that may need to administer gas and air in an emergency first aid scenario, such as people who work in hazardous environment or sports coaches.

Upon successfully completing this course, delegates will receive a St John Ambulance Cymru certificate valid for 1 year.

When it comes to medical gases training, St John Ambulance Cymru is the leading training provider in Wales. In the UK, St John Ambulance is one of the voluntary aid societies (VAS) who are recognised by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) as standard setters for first aid training in accordance with the Health and Safety (First Aid) regulations 1981. We don't require external accreditation through an Awarding Organisation.

Medical gases are a fundamental part of healthcare facilities, including hospitals. You may be thinking what the difference is between a medical gas and a regular gas. The simple explanation is that medical gases are used in medical procedures. Medical oxygen is used for resuscitation and inhalation therapy. You may see people breathe in the gas through a mask or mouthpiece. This is also known as oxygen therapy, and will improve a patients oxygen level. Correct oxygen administration is therefore a vital component of this medical gases training course.

Entonox is a mixture of a gas called nitrous oxide and oxygen. It is sometimes referred to as gas and air or laughing gas. it is often used to relieve pain.

Gas can be dangerous, and that's why it's also important to know how to store gas and oxygen cylinders correctly. Our delegates can rest assured that our highly-trained class instructors will ensure they feel confident enough to store correctly after taking our medical gases training.
